Michael Jackson never had a hard time moving albums in the U.S. during his lifetime, and that still holds true, even more than a decade after his passing. This week, the beloved R&B and pop superstar doubles up on the Billboard 200, the ranking of the most-consumed titles in America, as one of his most popular sets returns.
Between his two charting projects on this week’s Billboard 200, Jackson sits highest with Thriller. Already one of the bestselling albums of all time, the Grammy winner for Album of the Year is still performing incredibly well–decades after its release.
This week, Thriller moved another 9,300 equivalent units, according to Luminate. That sum includes both actual purchases and streaming and track sale equivalents. The set rises from No. 132 to No. 115 as it gains slightly in consumption.
Just 15 spots further down, Jackson appears again. The Essential Michael Jackson doesn’t just sit at No. 130, it returns to the Billboard 200 entirely. Last frame, it was nowhere to be found–not on this list, at least. The compilation ranks as the third-highest return this frame, coming in behind titles from The Weeknd (The Highlights, No. 56) and Jimin (Face, No. 59).
In the past tracking period, The Essential Michael Jackson shifted another 8,865 equivalent units. It has previously topped out at No. 31–a surprisingly low position for a compilation that has now spent 457 weeks on the Billboard 200.
As Jackson claims a pair of spots on the Billboard 200, he manages the same type of showing on another ranking published by the chart company. The late legend also occupies a two positions on the Top R&B Albums list as well. Thriller sits at No. 14, while The Essential Michael Jackson reappears at No. 18.
