The Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 trailer just dropped, revealing a shocking resurrection that majorly impacts the future of Star Wars - and might set up a reunion in Ahsoka season 2. The Bad Batch season 3 trailer revealed the return of Count Dooku’s former Sith apprentice-turned mercenary Asajj Ventress.
Ventress had one of the best character arcs in the entirety of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Count Dooku’s rejection and attempted assassination of Ventress led her to seek revenge multiple times and even led to her teaming up with former adversaries like Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Ventress was also one of the main characters in Christie Golden’s canon novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple. The novel is based on a canceled eight-episode story arc from The Clone Wars that features Jedi Quinlan Vos falling in love with Ventress after teaming up to try to take down Count Dooku.
In the final act of the novel, after being badly wounded, Asajj Ventress sacrifices herself and is killed by Count Dooku, saving Vos’ life and encouraging him not to seek revenge and fall to the dark side. Now, The Bad Batch is resurrecting her - setting up one key reunion in Ahsoka.
Ahsoka's Villains Are Nightsisters... & Ventress Is A Nightsister
One of the most interesting parts of Ventress’ story is that she was a Nightsister of Dathomir, and after escaping Count Dooku’s assassination attempt in The Clone Wars season 3, she returned to Dathomir.
Ventress’ desire for revenge against her former master eventually led to the Nightsisters' demise as Dooku led an attack that killed a vast majority of their forces. With the return of the Nightsisters of Dathomir in Ahsoka season 1, that may be something connecting the two shows. With the plot of Ahsoka season 2 still a mystery, this connection could be explored by Dave Filoni.
Audiences have seen the Nightsisters resurrect their kind before - it was seen in The Clone Wars, and the Great Mothers resurrected stormtroopers in the Ahsoka season 1 finale. While Ahsoka takes place almost 30 years after the Clone Wars, these dark magick users can keep alive one of their best assassins.
Ahsoka Tano is also very familiar with Asajj Ventress. The two had faced off multiple times when Ventress was Count Dooku’s apprentice and had even teamed up after Ahsoka was framed for bombing the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
Could Ahsoka Season 2 Feature A Live-Action Asajj Ventress?
With the resurrection of Asajj Ventress, it’s possible that the assassin has survived to the time of Ahsoka. It’s not known where Ventress would’ve been hiding throughout the reign of the Empire, but The Bad Batch season 3 may be giving audiences that answer.
If Ventress is still alive, she would be an interesting addition to the cast of Ahsokaseason 2. While she only really has ties to Ahsoka Tano by that point, her skills as a mercenary may be useful to the likes of the Great Mothers or Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Ventress would be an amazing addition to Ahsoka season 2. With her likely not aligning with the Sith or the Jedi, she could potentially be a wild card. It would be amazing to see Dave Filoni bring yet another Clone Wars character to live-action, especially given all the success he’s had with characters like Bo-Katan Kryze and Ahsoka Tano.
It’s also worth mentioning that Ventress was name-dropped in a recording that Anakin Skywalker made for Ahsoka, which was seen in Ahsoka episode 7. This may be hinting that Ventress may be making her live-action debut.
Quinlan Vos has also recently been name-dropped in Star Wars live-action, with Obi-Wan having identified his markings within the Path in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Would Asajj Ventress Be An Ally Or Enemy For Ahsoka?
With such a muddled past, it’s hard to know if Ventress would be an ally or an enemy for Ahsoka Tano. However, in The Bad Batch season 3 trailer, she's seen wielding a yellow lightsaber, which may indicate that she no longer associates with the light or dark side of the Force, but has found peace.
Given her past of teaming up with Jedi like Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Quinlan Vos, it’s possible that Ventress would be more likely to aid someone like Ahsoka, who she already knows is honorable. Hopefully, Ventress' The Bad Batch story will make her Ahsoka debut possible.
